I've got your Toto!
When my Dad started watching this old movie that had a dog in it, which looked a little like me, I thought well, it's not Animal Planet, but it's better than Fox News. So what's up with the name Toto?. One night, I trotted downstairs to Dad's computer and Googled him. Here's what I found:
In the 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz, Toto was played by a black female Cairn Terrier whose real name was Terry. Terry was paid a $125.00 salary each week, which was far more than many of the human actors (the Munchkins only received $50.00 a week). Terry starred in 12 films from 1936-1942.
Okay, so she's famous. What's that make me? Chopped liver or whatever I have to eat these days since they keep messing with my brand of dog food? I suppose musically speaking, it's kinda fun and catchy. At least there is more to look at this time.
Even though the orchestra has played for a bunch of silent films before, Iâve heard this is different in that the orchestral sound track had to be extracted note by note leaving only the voices of the cast in tact, while the orchestra plays the score live to the showing of the movie. So no screwing up Dad or we'll be able to tell.
I have to say I'm a little more interested now knowing Toto is a girl. Also I wouldn't mind taking a chunk out of one of those flying chimps.
I won't be seeing you on Friday or Saturday night (5/11 & 12). I'll be curled up on the couch, since I have to agree with Dorothy-- "There's no place like home."
